Indoor Hockey Wrap Up

With the change of format to indoor hockey, we found a new facility at Burnside High school, and was it a hit. We had 5 Indoor Premier League Teams, 8 Open/Youth Grade Teams, 3 Coaches, and 16 Officials involved over the weekend of Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th of October.

Indoor is a new brand of hockey, and with some positive feedback from our 2024 season we were happy to bring it back for 2025. It was fantastic to see the court sides packed with spectators and seeing all the players, coaches, and officials develop over the weekend. A massive thank you to Burnside High School for being so accommodating for the venue, and allow us to bring a new format to Indoor Hockey.

We had two Indoor Mens teams compete over a three match series which we saw Hagley Hornets take it out over the Cathedral Cobras in a competitive competition. In the Indoor Premier League Women, we had 3 teams compete in the competition, with they Hagley Hornets playing the Cathedral Cobras in the final, and it went all the way down to the wire where Hagley Hornets took out the Women’s competition winning 4-3 in a  end to end game on Saturday Night.

In our Open/Youth Grade Women, we had 2 shootouts in knockout stage, seeing the Port Hill Panthers winning their semi final in a shootout to go through to the final. In the other semi-final, 'Indoor Outdoor Flow' played 'I Have No Idea?' With Indoor Outdoor Flow winning a high scoring game 5-3, and advancing through to the finals to play against the Port Hill Panthers. Wow did this final have everything! Cards, Field Goals, Penalty Corner Goals, and to top it off a shootout finish as well! Where Indoor Outdoor Flow won the shootout to take away the trophy for the Open Grade Women’s Competition.

In the Open/Youth Grade Mens competition, the first semi final was between 'One Hit Wonders' and 'Shirley Spartans' with a lot of goals and little defence being played the game finished up 8-6 to One Hit Wonders. In the other semi final we saw Porthill Panthers vs CC Social,a far lower scoring game with the Port Hill Panthers just getting the win with a goal in the last quarter to cement their spot in the final vs One Hit Wonders. Of the two teams that went undefeated for the entire weekend, One Hit Wonders took away the crown winning the final 4-1.

Congratulations to all our Grade Winners and all teams in the event, we hope to see you next time!

Lastly a massive thank you to all Players, Coaches, Officials, and Spectators for your involvement in the event and helping shape the way we take indoor in 2026.
