There is a lot happening in the coach development space, so we’ve put together this newsletter to ensure all the coaches within our community knows what’s going on.
In collaboration with Hockey New Zealand, Canterbury Hockey is excited to offer three main forms of coach support and education in 2022.
The first is online through various coaching resources and courses which can be accessed through via Hockey New Zealand's online learning portal and Canterbury Hockey Online Resources Webpage.

The second is through one of the following core coach education workshops, which align to Hockey New Zealand’s Community Coaching Programme.
- Canterbury Hockey Small Sticks Workshop
- Hockey New Zealand Coaching of Introductory Players Programme
- Hockey New Zealand Coaching of Foundation Players Programme
Please note, we are working with Hockey New Zealand to confirm delivery dates for the ‘Coaching of Introductory Players Programme’ and the brand new ‘Coaching of Foundation Players Programme’, so further information about these will be released in the coming weeks.
Finally, the third form of coach development opportunities available will be delivered in the form of Canterbury Hockey led coach extension opportunities, which include various coaching workshops/forums, coach mentoring and involvement in Canterbury Hockey player development or representative programmes.

2022 Coaching Workshops
Canterbury Hockey will be running the below practical coaching workshops for our club and school coaches throughout the early parts of the season. Further details about opportunities in the middle to end of the season will be released on our website shortly.

2022 Intro to Developer Programme
Following the release of Hockey New Zealand’s new Community Coaching Plan, Canterbury Hockey is excited to deliver a brand new ‘Introduction to Developer Programme’.
The purpose of this programme is to introduce local coach and umpire leaders to the concept of developer and provide them with upskilling on the developer skills that are most relevant to their current coach support roles.
This programme will be delivered over the course of 3 x 2-hour sessions on Friday April 29, Friday May 6, and Sunday May 8.

NEW AND REFRESHED ONLINE COURSES
Click Here to see all the new and refreshed courses available on the Online Portal! This includes a brand new look to courses and a couple of new ones. You will also be able to access certificates as recognition of completing a course. With these changes you may of seen a few notifications pop through your email or your portal account.
