Programme


The Canterbury Performance Centre (CPC) programme fosters and empowers athletes with the capacity to excel in national senior and age group competitions. It offers a supportive environment that provides development opportunities for current Canterbury Premier League, Division 1, and Secondary School Premier League athletes.

          

The Centre is closely aligned with Canterbury representative and Hockey NZ pathways. Chris Leslie, who serves as the Talent Development Manager for Canterbury Hockey leads the programme, The programme receives support from Hockey NZ Performance Network coach Aaron Ford and Canterbury’s top Under 18 and Senior representative coaches to deliver hockey sessions. The programme is enriched by expertise from specialist coaches and trainers.


The primary aim of the Centre is to develop well prepared athletes that are:

  • Technically skilled
  • Tactically smart
  • Mentally prepared
  • Physically capable
  • Have life balance.

 

Services offered are:

  • 2 x weekly group hockey sessions
  • 1 x weekly on turf conditioning sessions
  • Remote strength and conditioning programme
  • Fitness testing
  • Sports science workshops (these maybe online)
    • Nutrition
    • Sports psychology
    • Athlete life advice

Delivery

The programme is delivered in two blocks.

Block 1

  • Hockey sessions commence Monday 13th November.
  • 5 week programme
  • Final session Wednesday 13th December 2023
  • Mondays: 6:00pm-7:30pm (Men) | 7:30pm-9:00pm (Women)
  • Wednesdays: 6:00pm-7:30pm (Women) | 7:30pm-9:00pm (Men)
  • Sports science workshops to be advised.


Block 2

  • Sessions commence Monday 15th January.
  • 6 week programme
  • Final session Wednesday 21st February 2024
  • Mondays: 6:00pm-7:30pm (Men) | 7:30pm-9:00pm (Women)
  • Wednesdays: 6:00pm-7:30pm (Women) | 7:30pm-9:00pm (Men)
  • Sport science workshops to be advised.


Please note:

   All hockey sessions are at Nunweek Park.

  On field condition sessions are conducted at the commencement of trainings on Mondays.

 

Levels

There are two levels of entry to the programme. Senior and Emerging talent.

 

Eligibility Criteria

For athletes to join the programme they must be

  • Residing in the Canterbury region or is a member of or affiliated to a club in the Canterbury region as defined by Hockey New Zealand.
  • Athletes must be in good standing with their association and club (financial membership).
  • Minimum age of 16 (as of 1 January 2023).
  • You must have played CPL, Division 1 or SSP in 2023.

Should circumstances allow, CPC may choose to consider athletes that fall outside of the stated criteria.


 Fee Structure

Block 1:

  • Commit to attending one hockey sessions per week – Total Cost $125.00.
  • Commit to attending two sessions per week – Total Cost $250.00.

 Block 2:

  • Commit to attending one hockey sessions per week – Total cost $150.00.
  • Commit to attending two sessions per week – Total Cost $300.00.

 This will be invoiced and is payable before the commencement of each block. There are payment plan options available that the CHA finance team can help with.

 

Player Requirements


By accepting the offer of CPC services and support, a player agrees to:

  • Attend and participate in all hockey, sport science, sports science sessions and workshops throughout the year where practical.
  • Abstain from taking prohibited substances (knowingly or unknowingly)
  • Maintain behaviours and personal standards conducive to sporting excellence.
  • If unable to attend a scheduled session/workshop, the player will communicate this to the CPC manager as soon as possible prior to the event.
  • Make themself available to trial and represent a Canterbury provincial team under the rules and terms of Hockey New Zealand tournaments.
  • Agree that the programme does not guarantee selection for any association representative team, national squad, or national team.
  • At all times promote and protect CPC interests and reputation.
