Indoor Hockey

In 2024 CHA are running three Canterbury Indoor Hockey competitions for both Men’s and Women’s over the summer period.



CHA are proud to deliver a genuine Indoor Hockey experience. The indoor hockey venue is Celebration Stadium in Wainoni

 

In 2024 the competition will run from 15th October to 13th December.

  • Indoor Premier League (IPL) – Thursday nights
  • Indoor Open Competition – Tuesday nights
  • Indoor Youth Competition – Friday nights


Indoor Premier League (IPL)


For the Indoor Premier League, CHA will be hosting a live IPL DRAFT event to select the four teams in both the Men’s and Women’s grades. All Players that register will go into the draft with the 40 Men’s and Women’s players selected to represent their teams in an 8-week competition.

Hagley Hornets

Port Hill Panthers

Waimak Wolves


Once a player has been drafted into a team the cost will be $80 per player for the 8-week competition.


The IPL will be played on a Thursday night for 8 weeks from Thursday 17th October to Thursday 12th December (no matches on Show Week)

Indoor Open competition


The Indoor Open competition is a a team based competition which requires a private team manager or a club to enter the team into the competition and manager the players that play in that team.


The Indoor Open competition is suitable for all Senior Grade players from Div 1, MWO, Sunday League, and Masters.


The cost per team is $800 for the 8-week competition ($10 per player per game based on team size of 10 players). 


The Indoor Open competition will be played on a Tuesday night for 8 weeks from Tuesday 15th October to Tuesday 10th December (no matches on Show Week)

Indoor Youth competition


The Indoor Youth competition is a hybrid between clubs and schools. Teams can be entered by either a club or a secondary school. To be eligible to play in one of these teams you must be attending a secondary School in 2024.


The cost per team is $800 for the 8-week competition ($10 per player per game based on team size of 10 players).


The Indoor Youth competition will be played on a Friday night for 8 weeks from Friday 18th October to Friday 13th December (no matches on Show Week)

Super Indoor Challenge NZ National Indoor Championship


Indoor Hockey NZ are hosting two Indoor Events this summer in Auckland at Barfoot Thompson Stadium, Kohimarama.

  • National Under 18 Indoor Championship: 3rd to 5th December 2024
  • National Indoor Championship: 6th to 8th December 2024

These Men’s and Woman’s events are classed as the NZ National Indoor Championship and will also double as the selection events for the National Open and National U18 Indoor teams (NZ U18 squads selected to compete at the Australian U18 champs in January 2025).


Competition Format:

  • Pool games, crossover games then finals.
  • Guaranteed min 5 games over two days.
  • Min 8 players max 12 players per team. (Must have a padded goalkeeper)

These teams will be supported by CHA to attend the events and represent Canterbury and will be a player funded model.


When you are registering for the CHA Indoor Hockey Competitions you will have the option to select whether or not you are interested in being selected for a Canterbury Indoor Team, their will not be formal trials, the selection process will be done over the first three weeks of the CHA Indoor Competitions.
