Over summer we’re launching our new Officials Summer Story Series!
This is a chance to spotlight some of our umpires and technical officials and share the journeys that brought them into officiating. By highlighting their beginnings, their proudest moments, and what they love most about being part of our community, we hope not only to celebrate those already giving so much to the game, but also to inspire others to get involved.

Are there any goals you’re working towards for 2026 and beyond?
I would say my goals for 2026 are to umpire higher-level games towards the end, while focusing throughout the season on improving my toolbox, skills and overall confidence.
What advice would you give your younger self starting out?
I would say to my younger self to take and ask about every opportunity that comes up and to always have a positive attitude.
How do you stay motivated during long seasons?
I stay motivated through long seasons by always showing up because I just generally love umpiring and the amazing community that we have.
What legacy do you hope to leave for future officials in Canterbury?
The legacy I want to leave at Canterbury hockey for future officials is that I want to be remembered as a person with a positive attitude and one who never gave up.
When did you start officiating?
I started umpiring around last October with Tuesday and Friday summer hockey, and the 2025 winter season was my first official season as a hockey umpire.
