Hockey Accelerators post-season 2021: ‘Fast Start’ and ‘Specialist Skills’ programmes

Canterbury Hockey is excited to deliver its final junior and youth player development programmes of 2021.

With recent changes to the development space and the implementation of the Extension Programmes, the CHA team has determined that it’s also time to refresh our Hockey Accelerators Programme and to ensure that players involved are receiving high quality development-focused trainings that are different to traditional training sessions that they may take part in during club, school or Extension programmes.

Fast Start Programme

Purpose: To provide beginner players with high quality coaching that’s focused on developing essential (basic) skills.

Target audience: Players with 2 or less years’ of playing experience that want to focus on developing essential hockey skills.

Specialist Skills Programme

Purpose: To provide players with high quality coaching that’s focused on developing specialist skills. These specialist skills will include the likes of goal scoring, penalty corner and shoot outs skills. Specialist goalkeeper training will also be provided and integrated into field player sessions.

Target audience: Athletes with 2 or more years’ of playing experience that want to focus on developing specialist hockey skills.

Both programmes will be led by Canterbury Hockey’s Community Hockey Manager Ben Owers, with the support of various Canterbury representative and development coaches and will be delivered side by side during fours sessions. Further details below:
