The Vantage National U18 Women's Championship will take place in Canterbury from the 7th to the 13th July 2024.


Hockey New Zealand President's Message

Welcome to the 2024 Vantage National U18 Hockey Tournament.

Congratulations on your selection to play in the Vantage National U18 tournament. Selection represents your years of dedicated passion and development of the necessary attributes in skill, fitness and attitude that are now recognised by your playing in this tournament.

The mixture of excitement, intensity and physicality you will experience are unique to a New Zealand national hockey tournament. Your resolve will be tested in all aspects of the game as you strive for excellence playing against your peers. Importantly, these tournaments also offer you the opportunity to forge friendships with your teammates and your opponents. Treasure those opportunities too.

Recognise also, the privilege and responsibility that is part of your selection. As an ambassador for your region, represent it with pride. Whether you win or not, playing your best is all that can be asked of you.

Play hard, play fair, respect the umpires, your coaches, administrators and family who have made your participation in and this tournament possible. Above all, enjoy the tournament experience.

Tournament Format

Game duration

  • 15 minute quarters
  • 2 minute quarter breaks
  • 5 minute half time breaks
  • 20 minute transition time

Pool Play

  • Teams have been placed into 6 Pools based on the "snake" seeding method.
  • Pool E and Pool F will have a bye
  • Bye 1st Day | 3rd seeded teams
  • Bye 2nd Day | 2nd seeded teams
  • Bye 3rd Day | 1st seeded teams
  • There is a time slot at 4:30pm for Bye Teams (half field each) if they wish to use the turf for training or practice matches.

Top 16

  • The top 2 teams from Pool E and Pool F will progress to the Top 16
  • The top 3 teams from Pools A, B, C & D will progress to the Top 16
  • These matches will require a winner outcome.
  • If required, shoot out competitions should commence immediately after the match

Bottom 6 (Pool G)

  • The bottom placed team of each pool will play off for positions 17th-22nd.
  • These matches will be played as "Pool G"
  • These matches do not require a winner outcome.
  • Previous points from pool play will not be carried over to Pool G

Venue

Ngā Puna Wai: Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub, Augustine Drive, Wigram, Christchurch 8025

Driving: If you’re driving, then the best way to access Ngā Puna Wai is to follow the signs to the Ngā Puna Wai from Augustine Drive, off Halswell Road in Halswell.

There are 458 parking spaces including 11 mobility car parks available at the venue and a grass area beside the main car park for temporary parking. Check Google Maps for the best route for you.

At the turfs during week:

  • Catering in a Box Café will be open during all games serving Coffee, food and beverages.
  • No Smoking/Vaping or Alcohol to be brought onsite.
