New Zealand Pasifika Hockey

New Zealand Heritage Hockey was created to support the growth and participation levels in the sport of hockey – with particular focus on underrepresented ethnic groups.  Maori, Pasifika and New Zealand Indians are the initial heritage hockey grounds that New Zealand Heritage Hockey has adopted with the intention of extending its reach out to other heritage organisations in the future

New Zealand Heritage Hockey is a Charitable Trust created to support the growth and participation levels in the sport of hockey – with particular focus on underrepresented ethnic groups.  Maori, Pasifika and New Zealand Indians have traditionally opted for other comparatively cheaper sports or have opted to not participate in sports due to financial constraints.  New Zealand Heritage Hockey wants to address this issue and grow the representation of these and other ethnicities at all levels of the sport of hockey.

Our key areas of focus are:

  1. To promote, encourage, assist, develop and support by any means whatsoever heritage hockey throughout New Zealand for all players through competition, recreation, leisure and cultural activities which is in the interests and the wellbeing of all heritage hockey participants;
  2. To provide support to the various heritage community sport and recreational groups and organisations through-out New Zealand by the provision of advice, training, guidance and funding to assist in the improvement of, and access to, governance, management and administration of the said groups and organisations.
  3. To educate the all ages and levels of people in Heritage communities (including but not limited to Indian, Maori and Pasifika Hockey) by raising the awareness of the national teams and enabling all players to develop their skill set and demonstrate their abilities nationwide;
  4. To provide guidance and support to schools and educational institutions by assisting in the co-ordination of, and up-skilling of teachers, trainers and coaches in the delivery of, hockey and physical recreation programmes and activities through-out New Zealand;
  5. To undertake such other activities and provide such other assistance, whether by way of financial assistance/support or otherwise as the Trustees see fit, of a charitable nature for the benefit of those who fit the Heritage Hockey profile.

New Zealand Heritage Hockey has its flagship event each Easter with the national teams of each heritage organisation invited to compete and also share in an exchange to promote their respective cultures and languages.
