Canterbury Hockey is one of New Zealand's leading associations and has experienced considerable representative success over a number of years, at all levels.

Canterbury is represented at the following National Tournaments by our Regional teams (including players from Canterbury, Mid Canterbury, South Canterbury, Malvern and West Coast):

  • National Hockey League (Cats & Cavaliers)
  • National Senior Tournament (Barracudas & Beavers)
  • National Under 21 Tournament
  • National Under 18 Tournament.

Canterbury is also represented at the following National Tournaments by our Association teams (including just Canterbury players):

  • Association Under 18 Tournament
  • National Under 15 Tournaments
  • Collier Trophy & Hatch Cup

In our continuing drive to achieve and maintain excellence our representative coaches and managers are crucial to the performances of our teams.

The coach and manager appointment process for our NHL, Senior, U21, U18 and U15 teams' takes place from January to March, while applications for Primary coaches and managers occurs in April.

Player Welfare

Canterbury Hockey, along with High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ), want to ensure that players in the U18 age group selected into representative teams do not have an excessive workload placed on them over the period of their campaign.
