U18 Player Workload Management
U18 Player Workload Management
Canterbury hockey always highlight the importance of managing the workload of our athletes in the Under 18 age round especially our representative athletes during their National tournament campaign.
The main content of this policy is as follows
For athletes playing representative, club and school hockey, the below is the number of maximum ‘hockey contacts’ they are allowed per team:
• 2 x club contacts – i.e 1 x training and 1 x game
• 2 x school contacts – i.e. 1 x training and 1 x game
o If an athlete is involved in 2 x school matches a week (e.g. a SSP game plus school exchange), they cannot participate in any school trainings that week.
• 1-2 x representative contacts (practice matches to take place during these sessions)
o Please note, if an athlete only has 1 representative contact per week, they should not replace the other session with a club or school session.
• At a minimum, the athlete must have 1 x rest day per week
Under 18 representative athletes only playing one of club or school hockey, should also ensure they do not breach the recommended hockey contacts per week above of 5-6 per week.
