GIRLS HIGH MARCH ON
GIRLS HIGH MARCH ON
August 24, 2020
Christchurch Girls High School continued their winning ways on Friday night, putting in a strong performance to overcome Rangi Ruru Girls School to open a three point gap at the top of the table, and claim the Connetics Shield for the first time.
Girls High headed into the match with the best defensive record, but it was their attack that had Rangi Ruru at sixes and sevens, with field goals to Jessie Workman, Sophie Williamson and Rose Stephenson, as well as a penalty corner from Bella Stephenson.
Defensively they were also very good, keeping a clean sheet once again, denying eight penalty corners from Rangi Ruru in the process. The win also gives Girls High the Connetics Shield, the fourth side to hold it in 2020, and they have two matches remaining to defend it before they can lock it in the cabinet for the entire summer.
Christ’s College restored their position at the top of the boys table, a late goal to Henry Mossman giving them a 3-2 victory over St. Andrew’s College, who are now four points off the top four and in real danger of missing the semi finals.
