HSOB/BURNSIDE CLAIM BIG SCALP
August 04, 2020
HSOB/Burnside claimed a big scalp in the Canterbury Premier League (CPL) women’s competition on Saturday afternoon, beating the previously unbeaten Harewood side 3-1.
Burnside put a disappointing first round behind them, claiming only their third win of the season on the back of a strong defensive display, sitting in a half court for the majority of the match and utilising their speed up front to attack on the counter.
After numerous chances in the opening quarter for both sides, Burnside grabbed the lead midway through the second after Charlotte Idiens pounced on a loose ball in the circle. The game followed a very similar trend to the first match between the same teams, with Burnside holding onto the lead until the game opened up in the final quarter.
In contrast to the opening match of the season, Burnside extended the lead as Ruby Evans finished from a tight angle, then Harewood responded as Sophie Williamson reduced the deficit to leave the game in the balance. Payton Anderson finished off a counter attack to restore the two goal margin, sealing victory and the challenge shield, HSOB/Burnside the fourth team to hold it this season.
