Canterbury Hockey Association are very proud of our umpires, some of whom have officiated at national and international competitions. The 2018 season has been very busy for our senior umpires, with several of them being appointed to some major tournaments at home and further afield. Here are some of our recent successes:

Congratulations (again) Gareth!

Gareth Greenfield is currently in Jakarta to officiate at the 2018 Asian Games. This is an opportunity for teams to qualify for the Toyko Olympics, so there will be some tough competition. Some established teams such as India and Pakistan will face off against each other, as well as some up-and-coming hockey nations such as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. We hope you enjoy the experience of umpiring some different styles of hockey.

Congratulations to Gareth Greenfield who was been appointed to umpire at the 2018 Champions Trophy in The Netherlands. The Netherlands, India, Pakistan, Argentina, Australia and Belgium battled in out for the trophy, with Australia eventually taking it home. We enjoyed watching Gareth make some tough calls on Sky Sports, particularly during the final which he was chosen to umpire. He is a fantastic role model to all of the umpires in Canterbury.
