Coach and Umpire development opportunities - Pro League

Canterbury Hockey and Hockey NZ are excited to host a range of community coach and umpire development events around the Pro League games in Christchurch this February. The Christchurch Pro League games are not only an amazing opportunity to watch our Black Sticks play world class international opponents on our home turf, but also a great chance to further develop our hockey community. Please see details below about the three main community coach and umpire development events which are on offer.

Canterbury Hockey – Advanced Coaching Workshop
Venue: Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub
Date: Saturday 16 February
Time: 12.30pm – 3.30pm
Target Audience: senior club (CPL/DIV1 & SSP equivalent) and representative coaches
Presenters: Canterbury Hockey, Nicole Youman, Simon Brill and Greg Nicol

Canterbury Hockey with the support of Hockey NZ will be delivering an advanced coaching workshop to senior club and representative coaches. The workshop will be Pro-League themed, with game analysis and training observation being the major focus. Canterbury Hockey will be joined by Nicole Youman (Community Coaching Manager), Simon Brill (Performance Coaching Manager) and Greg Nicol (National Athlete Pathway Manager) from Hockey New Zealand, for what serves an exciting first coach development opportunity of 2019.

Hockey New Zealand – Community Umpires Forum
Venue: Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub
Date: Saturday 16 February
Time: 4.00pm – 5.30pm
Target Audience: open to all umpires
Presenters: Colin French and 1 TBC

Hockey NZ with the support of Canterbury Hockey will be delivering a Community Umpires Forum which is open to all community umpires. The forum will serve as a great opportunity for local and visiting umpires to get together and hear from Hockey New Zealand around recent developments in the umpires’ space. Hockey New Zealand Technical Manager Colin French will be presenting, with another exciting guest speaker to be confirmed.

Hockey New Zealand – Community Coaches Forum
Venue: Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub
Date: Sunday 17 February
Time: 12.30pm – 2.00pm
Target Audience: open to all coaches
Presenters: Nicole Youman, Simon Brill and Colin French

Hockey NZ with the support of Canterbury Hockey will be delivering a Community Coaches Forum which is open to all community coaches. The forum will provide an opportunity for the hockey community to meet and hear from the Hockey NZ Coaching team on the development of the Hockey NZ Coaching Plan as well as an important chance for coaches to connect and collaborate. It will be an informal session to promote interaction and sharing from everyone in the room.

Specialist Goalkeeping Coaching Session - Observation
Venue: Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub 
Date: Saturday 16 February 
Time: 2.00pm – 5.00pm

Canterbury Hockey offer another coach development session around Pro League, with an observation opportunity at the Canterbury Regional Performance Centre's (RPC) specialist goalkeeper training on Saturday 9 February. The session will be supported by a special guest as Black Sticks Women's specialist goalkeeping coach Jude Menezes will work with High Performance Manager Chris Leslie and our RPC goalkeepers from 2pm - 5pm at Nga Puna Wai. Coaches who are interested in goalkeeping and are keen to learn from one of New Zealand's best goalkeeping coach's are welcome to come down at any stage and observe some of the specialist session.
