On Sunday we introduced our brand new, world class hockey turfs at Nga Puna Wai to our hockey community. The Regional Performance Centre 2018/9 intake played an exhibition game on Turf 1, while Turf 2 was available for all to try Renegade Hockey or just chase a ball into the goals. Many just took the opportunity to tour the whole facility and try the new grandstand and dugouts. It was great to have our partners at Nga Puna Wai attend – the Council, Sport Canterbury, Canterbury Rugby League and Canterbury Athletics. These partners were acknowledged in the brief speeches made by Rod Templeton (Chief Executive), Mark Beatson (Chair of Canterbury Hockey) and Selwyn Maister (Chair of Canterbury Artificial Surfaces Trust). Also acknowledged was the huge opportunity our game now has to grow and be seen by not just our hockey community but also the sports and general public who will be using Ngā Puna Wai.
